Why The Newest K-Drama “Jirisan” Should Be On The Top Of Your Must-Watch List
It might just be your next favorite drama.

The newest and most anticipated K-drama “Jirisan” has just been released by streaming platform iQiyi on October 23, and a lot of fans are visibly stoked! Who wouldn’t be? The entire show looks promising and there is so much to watch out for.
San in Korean means “mountain,” so it is no secret that the drama revolves around the 1,915-meter-high Mount Jiri, the second tallest mountain in South Korea. While films about climbers and mountaineers are nothing new, this TV series was able to add mystery (and probably a few twists) to it. Watch the trailer here:
Here are a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t miss “Jirisan”:
The compelling plot
“Jirisan” follows the story of a group of rangers who are tasked to rescue lost or stranded hikers of Jiri Mountain National Park while protecting the mountain itself. It was a place notorious for visitors who want to kill and those want to meet death. In the series of teasers released, it is evident that the mountain holds many secrets and mysteries.
While the plot is centered on the place, the drama also depicts the everyday lives of rangers who sacrifice a whole lot for their line of work. On top of that, the relationship between the best ranger Seo Yi-Gang (Gianna Jun) and rookie ranger Kyang Hyun-Jo (Ju Ji-Hoon) will also be given spotlight.
The star-studded cast
Many fans have already been drawn to the series even before its release because of its powerhouse cast members who are well-known for their talent and work. Jun Ji-Hyun aka Gianna Jun of “My Love from the Star” and “The Legend of the Blue Sea” will be playing Seo Yi-Gang, Ju Ji-Hoon of “Princess Hours” will be playing Kyang Hyun-Jo.
To boot, Oh Jung-Se of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” will be playing Jung Goo-Young, Sung Dong-Il of the “Reply” franchise will be playing Jo Dae-Jin, Jo Han-Chul of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” will be playing Park Il-Hae, Go Min-Si of “Love Alarm” and “Sweet Home” will be playing Lee Da-Won, and Kim Young-Ok of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” and “Squid Game” will be playing Lee Moon-Ok.
The picturesque scenery
Expect to see magnificent views and beautiful landscapes of Mount Jiri. Despite the challenges they faced in filming, the Jirisan crew tried their best to give justice to the backdrop of the series. Exciting!
The life lessons
Considering how the story revolves on the lives of rangers and the people who visit the mountain, there’s bound to be life lessons we can pick up throughout the show.
In one of the highlights, it says, “For many years many people have visited Mount Jiri during the long years it has stood. This mountain was a land of hope for someone but a spiteful land of death for another. Many people still bring their own stories to this mountain, but not all of them return with hope.
“This place is still at the border; the border between growing hope and severe devastation between life and death where the beginning and the stench of blood co-exist. Jirisan is the land between this world and the next.” That’s loaded with so much meaning and we’re looking forward to what’s next!
