Filipinos Want Marcos To Tackle Corruption in SONA – Pulse Asia

Almost one in every three Filipinos wants President Marcos to discuss anti-corruption initiatives in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, according to a new survey by Pulse Asia.

The survey, conducted from June 28 to July 6, showed that 29.8 percent of the respondents want Marcos to discuss the government’s anti-corruption efforts, including holding accountable those behind the flood control scandal.

Anti-corruption was the top issue among respondents in Luzon (including Metro Manila) and Mindanao, as well as those belonging to socio-economic classes ABC and D.

Meanwhile, 18.7 percent want the President to talk about affordable prices of basic commodities.

It was the top issue among respondents in the Visayas and those belonging to socio-economic class E.

Other issues cited by respondents included livelihood and jobs (6.6 percent), poverty (6.2 percent), illegal drugs (5.5 percent), salaries and wages (5.1 percent), oil prices (4.9 percent), agriculture (4.0 percent), criminality (2.8 percent) and education (2.0 percent).

Only 1.2 percent said they want the President to talk about the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

As the survey question was open-ended, the respondents were allowed to give one issue that they want Marcos to discuss or mention in his upcoming SONA.

The survey had 2,400 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus two percent.
