To fulfill the dream of the late Rene Clert Baterbonia, the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) has offered scholarships to the athlete’s six siblings, from basic education to college.

Baterbonia, known to family and friends as Bobet, died during an Ateneo de Manila University team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8, along with fellow student athlete Divine Adili.

“One of Bobet’s dreams that brought him to Manila, leaving his family in Davao, was his dream for his six siblings. Ateneo de Davao University would be (fulfilling this by) providing them with scholarships,” said AdDU president Fr. Karel San Juan after a vigil mass on Saturday, June 13.

In a post on social media, the AdDU said, “This is one small but heartfelt way for the university to contribute to fulfilling one of Bobet’s dreams: a better future for his six siblings.”

San Juan said aside from AdDU, other Ateneo schools offered assistance to the Baterbonia siblings, but their mother, Rovelyn, opted for AdDU as it is closer to their home in Agusan del Sur.

“Even if it is very sad that Bobet is no longer with us, we will keep him alive through the promise he made for his loved ones,” San Juan said, as he asked for continuous prayers for the Baterbonia family.
