WATCH: VP Sara Duterte’s SALN Declaration An Evidence Against Her – Cayosa
It can’t be an honest mistake.
Former Integrated Bar of the Philippines national president Domingo Cayosa told “The Big Story” on One News on Tuesday, Sept. 22, that Vice President Sara Duterte’s admission regarding her statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth or SALNs could serve as evidence linking her to companies listed in the document.
Cayosa said in earlier interviews Duterte could no longer claim retaining her business interests as an “honest mistake” as “everyone is presumed to know the law, especially if you are in a high government position.”
“If you don’t, then you should seek to be informed. This is your obligation. You are the implementer of the law and yet you do not the law, so there is no more excuse,” he explained.
Cayosa also pointed out that the Constitution clearly prohibits the president, vice president, and Cabinet secretaries in retaining business interests and does not require proof of a conflict of interest.
University of the Philippines law professor John Molo likewise told “Sa Totoo Lang” on One PH that SALNs are declared as “true” and “accurate” under oath, thus an official could not say that some details were only forgotten.
