According to Calleja, top officials should divest from businesses to avoid conflict of interest.
He argued that the broad powers held by the president and vice president make such safeguards essential under the law.
Law professor Lulu Reyes also told “Sa Totoo Lang” on One PH on Monday that Duterte’s violation of the 1987 Constitution was possible for failing to divest her business interests after her election as vice president.
Reyes said Duterte’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth could be scrutinized in light of the documents presented by the Securities and Exchange Commission involving her business interests.
