Assert Truths Of History – Leni

Vice President Leni Robredo called on Filipinos on Sunday, June 12, to “assert the truths of our history.”

In her message on the 124th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, she said Filipinos should “stand firm on a story that can never be changed, stolen, erased – a story that binds us according to a collective past, and gives us the strength to march towards a collective future.”

“Affirm what is right and true, and assert the truths of our history,” Robredo said.

The country’s history, she said, threads together those who fought before, those lost, and those fortunate enough to have witnessed the declaration of independence in Kawit.

The Vice President asked Filipinos to remember the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s freedom out of deep love for the country as she emphasized that victory could be achieved with courage and perseverance.

She reminded Filipinos to dream of a better future and that victory is not achieved overnight.

“It is comprised of many chapters of exhaustion and fear, of courage and greatness, of perseverance and struggle,” Robredo said.

“Any freedom that our ancestors might have achieved is but one step in the long path towards national fruition— a journey that we continue to tread until today,” she added.

Meantime, during her weekly radio program, Robredo expressed hope that the incoming administration will continue the medical assistance program Office of the Vice President, the only hitch being many programs they started may not be institutionalized because not initially part of the OVP.

At a thanksgiving gathering with Sen. Francis Pangilinan on May 13, Robredo announced she will launch the Angat Buhay non-government organization on July 1, 2022.

Angat Buhay NGO is seen to be the largest volunteer group in the country.

Supporters immediately manifested their willingness to join Angat Buhay once it is launched, aiming to reach out to the marginalized and uplift the neglected.
