Tropical Storm Queenie Enters PAR, Unlikely To Affect Country – Pagasa
The state weather bureau said the center of Tropical Storm Queenie as of 4 a.m. was at 1,065 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
Queenie (international name Surigae) intensified into a tropical storm after entering the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning, Sept. 24, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
In its 5 a.m. advisory today, Sept. 25, PAGASA said the center of Queenie as of 4 a.m. was at
1,065 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
But Queenie “is unlikely to directly affect the country throughout the forecast period,” PAGASA said.
“Queenie will generally move west northwestward until this afternoon before moving northwestward tomorrow morning (Sept. 26). By tomorrow afternoon, the tropical cyclone is forecast to decelerate as it begins to turn from northwestward to northeastward. On the forecast track, the center of Queenie will exit (PAR) between Sunday afternoon (Sept. 27) and (early Monday morning, Sept. 28). Outside the PAR, Queenie will accelerate as it heads northeast,” PAGASA said.
“This tropical cyclone will gradually intensify while inside PAR. It may reach typhoon category by Sunday,” it added.
