Hotdogs in a blanket

Instead of making the usual hotdog sandwich, take it up a notch by trying out the super simple hotdogs in a blanket!

What you’ll need:

  • Hotdogs or sausages
  • Butter
  • White bread slices
  • Butter
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Barbeque sticks

Procedure:

  1. First, refrigerate your bread slices for around three hours. Meantime, thaw your sausages or hotdogs.
  2. Take out your bread slices from the refrigerator after three hours and cut off the crust. Then, cut each slice into three equal parts.
  3. Lay out the pieces on a flat surface with a piece of hotdog or sausage in between each rectangular slice. Use a barbeque stick to make sure they stick together!
  4. Prepare a skillet and melt butter on low heat. Then, toast the bread and hotdog sticks you made earlier until the bread slices are golden brown, or until the hotdogs are cooked!
  5. Once they’re good to go, take them out of the pan and let them cool.
  6. In the same skillet, put mozzarella cheese (as much as you would like) and melt them on low heat.
  7. Cover your sausage and bread sticks with the melted mozzarella cheese, like a blanket, and serve!

Let’s be honest, cheese is a favorite when it comes to merienda! Thankfully, we have a lot of recipes where we can incorporate cheese, so you won’t run out of ideas to try.

What you’ll need:

  • 3 medium sized potatoes
  • 5 tablespoons of flour
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Bread crumbs

Procedure:

  1. Peel your potatoes and boil them for 20 minutes. Let cool and mash them using a whisk or fork. Don’t forget to season with salt!
  2. Put 2 tablespoons of flour into the mashed potatoes and mix thoroughly until it becomes a bit sticky. Then, get a teaspoon of mashed potatoes and roll them on the palm of your hand while stuffing mozzarella cheese inside.
  3. Once you have the potato balls, prepare a separate bowl for your wet mix.
  4. Put 1 medium egg and 1 tablespoon of milk into the bowl and mix thoroughly.
  5. Cover your potato balls with the wet mixture and immediately roll them in bread crumbs after. This will make your potato cheese balls crispy!
  6. Deep fry your potato cheese balls until they are golden brown.

Another way to make a healthier version of our ultimate fave chicken nuggets (without the hassle of dipping them into egg mixture and bread crumbs) is by using rice paper!

What you’ll need:

  • Chicken breast fillet
  • Rice paper
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

  1. Cut your chicken breast fillet into bite-sized pieces and pat them dry. Then, season them with salt and pepper. You can add other spices too!
  2. Cut your rice paper just enough to cover each bite-sized chicken nugget piece. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be sticky, but that just makes it easier to seal!
  3. You can use an air fryer to cook the chicken nuggets for a healthier touch, but if an air fryer isn’t available, deep frying is okay too.
  4. After 10 minutes (or until the chicken is golden brown), take out the nuggets and serve. You will surely love the crispiness of these ricepaper chicken nuggets!

You can do the famous fast-food curly fries at home, too!

What you’ll need:

  • ½ lbs of potato
  • ¼ cup of corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons of onion salt
  • 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
  • Parchment paper
  • Ziplock bag

Procedure:

  1. Peel half a pound of potato and boil them for 20 minutes or until they are soft and tender. Mash them using a whisk, fork, or you can also use a potato ricer.
  2. Now that you have mashed potatoes, pour the corn starch, onion salt, and garlic powder to the bowl and mix them thoroughly.
  3. Heat up a deep skillet with around a cup of cooking oil.
  4. Transfer the mashed potatoes into a Ziplock bag and cut the tip so you can use it as an “icing pen” to make the spiral shape.
  5. Prepare a parchment paper, and using your Ziplock bag, draw a spiral shape on the parchment paper. Deep fry the spiral-shaped mashed potato for around two minutes each side!
  6. Once the fries are golden brown, you can serve them with the classic tomato ketchup or even gravy!
