Here's a step-by-step guide to welcoming a furry friend into your home!
Not a lot of people are aware of the process involved in adopting a pet, which is why many still resort to buying them at pet stores or from breeders. However, adoption is a lot more meaningful not only to these rescued cats and dogs, but to the community as well because you’re helping defray costs in animal shelters.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)
PAWS is a non-profit animal rehabilitation center that aims to rescue injured, abandoned, and unwanted animals. To adopt from them, you must submit a filled-out application form which you can download from their website, and wait for an interview schedule.
When an interview schedule is confirmed, PAWS will send you a Zoom conference link. After this step, you will be invited to visit the animal shelter, where you will meet your new best friend! Their adoption fees are Php 500 for cats and Php 1,000 for dogs, which will be paid at the shelter once you have picked up your pet.

Philippine Animal Rescue Team (P.A.R.T.)
P.A.R.T. is an animal shelter that provides quality rehabilitation services for rescued cats and dogs. Here’s their five-step adoption process:
- Check their “adoptables” page so you can meet the new potential member of your family.
- Fill out and submit the online adoption application form.
- Wait for your interview schedule. Take note that they will also be visiting your home to ensure that it is pet-friendly!
- Pay the Php 1,000 adoption fee, which goes towards the needs of the other fur babies.
- Arrange a schedule to pick up your new pet!

Hound Haven Philippines
Hound Haven is committed to rehabilitating retired working dogs. The K-9s undergo behavioral training with assistance from their partner veterinarians, so that they will be ready for adoption.
This is their step-by-step adoption process:
- Download and accomplish their adoption application form, and send it to [email protected] with the subject “Adoption Form.”
- Wait for Hound Haven’s confirmation email that will contain the recommended time and date of your phone interview. Respond to confirm the schedule or request for another.
- If your phone interview is successful, you will be scheduled for a first visit to the center, which will allow you to interact with the dogs and find out which of them you connect with the most.
- A second visit will be required to discuss the dog’s medical history and health condition with their partner veterinarian.
- A third visit will be scheduled to discuss the K-9’s behavior. For this step, it is important for all members of the household to attend, as they will also be interacting with the dog.
- If you are successful with the application, a Php 3,000 to Php 5,000 adoption fee will be processed.
- After the payment, a pick-up schedule will be arranged so you may take home your new companion!

CARA Welfare Philippines
This non-government organization solely relies on donations. They have been rehoming and rehabilitating animals in need, and you can help by adopting their rescued pets too!
- Message them on Facebook or email [email protected] to schedule a visit to the center. They require at least one visit for cat adoption, and two visits for dogs.
- Once you’ve chosen your furry friend, fill out their application form.
- A home visit will be scheduled with one of their volunteers to ensure that your home environment is safe for their rescue/s.
- Once your application is approved, you may pick up your pet and pay the adoption fee of Php 800 for cats, and Php 1,200 for dogs.

Save the Laguna Pit Bulls Sanctuary
Save the Laguna Pit Bulls is a project by CARA Welfare Philippines, which started when over 260 pit bulls and mixed breed dogs were rescued from an illegal dog-fighting syndicate in 2012. As of March 2021, the sanctuary still has over 40 pit bulls waiting to be adopted into a loving home.
If you’re interested, simply follow these steps:
- Fill our the LPB Sunday Volunteer form to schedule your visit to the sanctuary.
- After the visit, you will be asked to complete the adoption form.
- A home visit will be scheduled where a volunteer must assess if your home is conducive for a pit bull. This also entails an interview with the entire household.
- Once approved, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay a Php 3,500 adoption fee.
- You will be sent a confirmation email indicating the schedule of pick up so you can take your pit bull home!
