Cong. Jolo Revilla Supports Lower House Approval Of SIM Card Registration Bill

In light of the increasing number of Filipinos victimized by scam messages and spam texts, Cavite 1st District Rep. Ramon “Jolo” Revilla III recently sounded his strong support in yesterday’s passage on the third and final reading of the SIM Card Registration Act at the Lower House led by Senior Deputy Majority Leader Rep. Sandro Marcos.

In his official Facebook page, Revilla said trust and confidence of the people in e-commerce and digital transactions have been tainted, which, in return, instilled fear that their personal information will be arbitrarily obtained and exploited by groups and individuals with malicious intent.

“Regulating registration including the purchase and usage of SIM cards will ensure that the public will be protected against any fraudulent act or commission of a crime,” he wrote last Monday, September 19.

Furthermore, Revilla vowed to continue the strengthening of and calls on government agencies who are tasked to enable a safe and responsive environment for the telecommunications and ICT sector, particularly the NTC, to take a more active role and come up with more effective strategies for resolving this issue.

“We couldn’t rest on our laurels and remain passive with the release of guidelines and the launch of various information campaigns. Let me call on the NTC, it is high time for the agency to employ a three-digit hotline for quicker response partnered with a comprehensive approach in dealing with mobile-phone-aided fraud as we aggressively fight against scammers victimizing the Filipino people,” he said.

Revilla concluded his post by telling the NTC, being the government agency that leads in the smooth flow of telecommunications and the ICT sector, to focus on investigating on the primary reason behind the scam messages and spam texts that exploit the Filipino people.

“We are with you in this fight so let us work together so we can answer and stop this issue,” he ended his post.
