Top 10: ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ trailer released

A mix of old and new faces!

That’s what to expect in the upcoming “Ghostbusters” film, as per the trailer released by Sony.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” stars Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd with the classic characters to be played by Bill Murray, Dan Ayroyd and Harold Ramis.

The classic stars were part of the original “Ghostbusters” in 1984 and sequel in 1989. It would be interesting to see how they will reconnect the past to the present storyline.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will be released in November.

Top 9: Venice International Film Festival to kick off in September

Right after announcing that the 78th Venice International Film Festival will be in September, organizers also unveiled its lineup of movies and stars.

Some of the films to premiere in the oldest film festival in the world are:

  •  The sci-fi epic “Dune” starring Timothee Chalamet
  •  “Spencer” led by Kirsten Stewart as Princess Diana
  • “The Last Duel” with Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Expect a lot more highly-anticipated films to be shown in this event as well.

Academy award winning director Bong Joon-Ho of “Parasite” will be the head of this year’s jury.

Venice Film Festival has always been a sought-after platform to showcase filming masterpieces. Some of its recent successes are “Nomadland,” “Joker” and “Marriage Story,” which earned Oscar feats.

Top 8: Producers Guild Awards set in February 2022

No more virtual awarding this time for the Producers Guild Awards or PGA. 

That’s the plan finalized for the ceremony next year.

Yes, it will be in-person, and the nominees will be announced in December and January.

PGA recognizes producers who have created a huge impact in the production profession.

Among those that PGA has given accolade were producers of “Nomadland,” “The Crown,” “Hamilton,” “The Queen’s Gambit,”  “John Oliver” and many others in the motion pictures and television categories just last year.

Top 7: Ji Chang-wook tests positive for COVID-19

Oppa Ji Chang-wook has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Korean news sites, this has been confirmed by his talent management, Glorious Entertainment.

The actor is now in quarantine in accordance to health and safety protocols. 

Chang-wook is known for Korean series like “Suspicious Partner,” “Healer,” “Lovestruck in the City,” among others.

 

Top 6: TOMORROW x TOGETHER are Smart’s newest ambassadors

Smart Communications Inc. introduced its newest ambassadors, the K-Pop group TOMORROW x TOGETHER or TXT.

The group will be the face of Smart’s prepaid ‘Build Your Own Giga’ that allows prepaid customers to customize their data plan.

TXT is composed of members Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai. They are under Hybe, formerly Big Hit Entertainment, which also handles the global superstars BTS.

Top 5: Alfred Vargas earns master’s degree

Actor-politician Alfred Vargas proudly shared his latest feat, which is graduating from the University of the Philippines with a master’s degree in Public Administration.

The Quezon City congressman offered his success to his late mother to whom he promised that he would finish a master’s degree.

That’s commendable because despite his busy schedule as the representative of the fifth district of Quezon City, Alfred was able to overcome the academic hurdles and graduated with flying colors.

His wife also posted how proud she is of her husband.

Top 4: Liza Soberano channels ‘Alexandra Trese’ in 10th anniversary photoshoot

First off, congratulations Liza Soberano for reaching 10 years in show business!

In celebration, Liza did a fierce photoshoot channeling her inner “Alexandra Trese.”

This is actually for a pictorial for a fashion magazine shot by photographer BJ Pascual.

As we all know, Liza is the voice of the lead character in the Filipino-dubbed version of “Trese” on Netflix.

 

Top 3: Chito Miranda’s cryptic post goes viral

Netizens were talking about and taking screenshots of “Parokya ni Edgar” frontman Chito Miranda’s post on Instagram on Tuesday, July 27.

The post has a black-and-white photo of a heart that’s torn.

But here’s where it smells really fishy, as noticed by their avid followers, shortly after Chito’s post, his wife, Neri Naig, had a shady entry on Instagram as well.

 

Neri has also been re-sharing on IG stories some comments about relationship struggles.

Immediately after all this, hashtag #ChitoNeriForever trended on Twitter.

Chito and Neri have been married since 2014. They have an adorable son, Miggy, and soon, they will have another child as Neri’s on the way.

But with this development, could it really be that things are changing for the couple?

Top 2: Rico Blanco writes song inspired by Hidilyn Diaz’s Olympic win

Original Pilipino Music (OPM) singer-songwriter Rico Blanco can’t help but be inspired by the success of Hidilyn Diaz after she became the first Filipino to ever win an Olympic gold medal.

Rico composed and dedicated a song which he calls, “Alab ng Puso (Para kay Hidilyn).”

Top 1: Hidilyn Diaz is back, continues to receive incentives

Two days after her historic win at the Tokyo Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz has returned home to her country as a hero.

The weightlifting star from Zamboanga arrived back in Manila via Philippines Airlines flight PR-427 on Wednesday, July 28, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 in Pasay City.

Diaz flew home along with her team and fellow athlete, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, who also competed in the Games.

On Monday, July 26, Diaz made her mark in history as she ended the Philippines 97-year drought for an Olympic gold medal when she placed first in the women’s 55 kg weightlifting division.

Blessings are pouring in for Diaz as sponsors and private companies keep on announcing that they will be giving her rewards or incentives for being the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist.
