Sara Won’t Attend Debates
Vice presidential bet Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio

DAVAO CITY – Vice presidential candidate and Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio would like to interact with people on the ground rather than attend debates.

She did not attend the debate for vice presidentiables hosted by CNN Philippines last Saturday, Feb. 26, wherein fellow vice presidential candidate Walden Bello called her a coward for refusing to join the event.

Her spokesperson, Mayor Christina Frasco of Liloan, Cebu, said Duterte-Carpio had no plans of attending any debate until the day of the elections.

“Candidates are at liberty to decide whether or not to accept invitations to debates,” Frasco said.

Earlier, Frasco also denied the announcement made by Comelec spokesman James Jimenez that included Duterte-Carpio as among the candidates participating in the vice presidential debate on March 20.

According to Frasco, Duterte-Carpio has visited 70 cities, towns, islands, provinces, in less than two months.

“Mayor Sara has already decided to do a campaign without attending debates and instead work her hardest on the ground to continue to earn the trust and win the vote of the people as the next vice president of the Philippines,” Frasco said.

Duterte-Carpio identified three priorities should she win in the upcoming May 9 elections. These include teaching people how to do business to augment the income of every family, conduct peacekeeping efforts to pave the way for development and child protection from abuse and neglect.
