PETA: Animal Homelessness In Phl Reaching Crisis Level
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling on the public to adopt cats (and also dogs) from shelters to address the problem on animal homelessness as the country observes “Adopt A Cat” Month.

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) urged the public on Wednesday, June 8, to adopt cats from shelters to address the problem on animal homelessness.
PETA made the call as the country currently observes “Adopt A Cat” Month.
“Animal homelessness has reached a crisis point in the Philippines. While countless dogs and cats struggle to survive on the streets, hundreds are euthanized every month in municipal pounds,” PETA senior vice president of campaigns Jason Baker said.
“PETA is urging anyone with the necessary time, energy and space to adopt a cat (or dog) from a rescue group or animal shelter,” Baker added.
In line with this advocacy, Strongmedia Advertising Solutions donated billboard spaces located in Cubao, España Boulevard, EDSA, Libis, Katipunan Avenue and Ortigas Center.
Through the billboard campaign “ADOPT DON’T SHOP,” PETA appealed to the public to “give a cat a second chance at a better life.”
It said every time someone buys a dog or cat online or from a breeder, market or pet store, a homeless animal loses a chance of finding a home.
This is the reason why PETA advocates for adoption and urged guardians to have their animal companions sterilized.
PETA’s team in Metro Manila works on the ground to spay and neuter animals in indigent communities at no charge, provides injured and sick animals with urgent veterinary care and adopts out animals in need of loving homes.
