Manila is ranked eighth among cities in the world with the highest levels of traffic congestion, according to a study conducted by an insurance technology website based in the United Kingdom.

The Philippine capital region is tied with Tel Aviv, Israel and Tokyo, Japan in eighth place.
Istanbul in Turkey, with a 62 percent congestion level, topped the list. Residents lose 142 hours to traffic annually.?Following Istanbul is Bogota in Colombia, which has a 55 percent congestion level and 126 hours lost to traffic each year.
Mumbai, India is in third place, with a 53 percent congestion level and 121 hours lost to traffic annually.
Bucharest in Romania, Bengaluru in India, New Delhi in India and Lodz in Poland rounded out the top 10 of the list.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority earlier reimplemented the modified number coding scheme in Metro Manila in time for the reopening of face-to-face classes, as they expected the traffic to tighten in the region.
Currently, number coding in Metro Manila is implemented from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
