EDSA Traffic Nearing Pre-Pandemic Levels
The Metro Manila Development Authority said the volume of cars using EDSA every day is at 398,000. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume of cars using EDSA was at about 405,000.

The volume of traffic along EDSA is nearing pre-pandemic levels as the holiday season approaches, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Saturday, Oct. 23.
In an interview aired over dzBB Saturday, Oct. 23, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said the volume of cars using EDSA every day is at 398,000.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the volume of cars using EDSA was at about 405,000.
Despite this, Abalos said the speed of the cars has doubled.
“Before, the speed of the cars was at 11 kilometers per hour. It was slow. Now, it is at 23 kilometers per hour, from Monumento to Roxas Boulevard. It is now faster,” he said, as he acknowledged a slower speed during rush hour.
The chairman has also asked malls to not conduct sales during weekdays.
He also shot down the possibility of lifting the suspension of number coding as of now.
“Number one, the public transport system is not yet normal. In the bus carousel, there are long queues of people. For me, if the transport system is not yet perfect… once we impose color coding anew, people would flock to public transportation,” he said.
Abalos earlier said that the imposition of the truck ban in Metro Manila, except at EDSA, would still be suspended until further notice.
