Top 10: ‘Old’ beats ‘Space Jam’ & ‘Snake Eyes’ at the box office

Thriller movie “Old” is turning heads as it’s declared the new No. 1 film in the United States box office with $16.5 million in ticket sales.

“Old” now leads the list previously dominated by “Space Jam” and “Snake Eyes.” 

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, “Old” tells the story of a family who went to a beach vacation and then discovered that they are suddenly aging rapidly. 

Top 9: Britney Spears’ lawyer petitions for CPA to replace her father in conservatorship

Britney Spears is starting to fight back!

Her new attorney has filed a petition, not to junk the conservatorship at the moment, but to replace Britney’s father, Jamie, with a certified public accountant (CPA).

We reported earlier that Britney called her father “abusive” so she wanted to remove him as conservator and even put him to jail. The singer also wanted to sue her own family.

Britney has been really vocal against her father. She even said that she will never perform as long as her father is the head of the conservatorship.

Well, let’s see if the court will approve the petition of Britney’s camp. 

Top 8: Matt Damon excited to work with Ben Affleck

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are reunited on screen via “The Last Duel,” which will premiere in October.

Matt himself shared about this on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

The movie is based on a novel by Eric Jager. It’s about two best friends, played by Matt Damon and Adam Driver, but they’re battling each other. The battle is to be overseen by Ben’s character.

It can be remembered that the two actors’ first project together was “Good Will Hunting” back in 1997, which won an Oscar for best original screenplay.

Top 7: Harvey Weinstein pleads not guilty in rape trial

Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault involving five women in Los Angeles.

The former producer arrived in the Los Angeles Superior Court in a wheelchair wearing a brown jail uniform after being extradited from New York, where he’s serving 23 years in prison for rape and other sexual assault cases.

More than 80 women have accused him of sexual misconduct from decades back, but only a handful of the allegations have resulted in criminal charges.

 Top 6: ‘Pokemon’ live-action series in the works

Pokemon fans, be on alert because a new series is in its early development stages at Netflix!

That’s according to reports of Variety.

No particular plot yet, but per initial information, it will be a live-action series similar to “Detective Pikachu” starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith in 2019.

At the moment, Netflix and the people behind the project are yet to respond to the report.

 

Top 5: ‘Ate Shawee’ passed away

The well-known impersonator of megastar Sharon Cuneta passed away on Monday, July 26.

Marvin Martinez, also known as Ate Shawee, died due to liver cirrhosis at the age of 45.

Ate Shawee’s passing was confirmed by talent manager Freddie Bautista on Facebook.

YouTube content creator Crisha Uy has been posting TikTok videos of her teasing actor JM de Guzman. 

This sparked speculations among netizens that the two celebrities are in a romantic relationship.

Some of them even speculated that one of JM’s tattoos means Crisha Uy.

The two previously worked together in JM’s music video back in 2013.

Crisha has been in a relationship before with Joem Bascon.

Top 3: MWP announces representative for Mr. Supranational

After Dindi Pajares was chosen to be the country’s official candidate for Miss Supranational, Miss World Philippines announced the appointment of John Adajar as representative for the counterpart, Mister Supranational pageant.

John is a mixed martial arts welterweight champion from San Pablo, Laguna.

Both pageants are happening this August already in Poland.

Ping shared that the pandemic hit him hard as he closed his restaurant and his remaining savings were borrowed for an online cockfighting business. Unfortunately, his master agent and player did not pay him back.

He then said that he is ready to fulfill his dream of becoming a forest hermit.

The Philippines is still in celebratory mood as Hidilyn Diaz clinched the elusive Olympic gold medal in weightlifting.

Hidilyn is the very first Filipino to bring home the gold since the country joined the Olympics in 1924.

History has been made when she beat China and Kazakhstan, setting another Olympic record.
