The eldest daughter of Vice President Leni Robredo has sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to validate and identify the accounts that were used to spread a fake video against her.
The Vice President’s camp confirmed that a lawyer representing Aika Robredo sent a letter requesting the NBI to authenticate the web addresses where the fake sex video was posted, as well as identify the accounts used to spread it.
A copy of the letter has yet to be released.
Earlier, Department of Justice-Office of Cybercrime earlier that its agents have begun investigating the origin of the fake lewd video, which spread on Holy Week.
It drew condemnation from various groups, including some of the candidates running for national positions.
In an interview in La Union on April 12, Robredo said their lawyers will take legal action over the latest hate attack and false information being spread against her eldest daughter.
“I used to be the focus of everything. But now that my daughters are also helping me, they are also becoming victims (of fake news). We expected that, but we also want to show that this is not the kind of leadership and campaign that we want,” Robredo said in Filipino.
“Our lawyers will take legal action. But for me and my daughters, we refuse to be deterred by these,” she added.
The Vice President attributed the attack against Aika to her rival Ferdinand Marcos Jr., noting how he has relied on false information since his defeat in the 2016 vice presidential race.
In response, Marcos’ spokesperson Vic Rodriguez claimed that the Vice President’s camp is engaging in a “propaganda of lies, falsehood and politics of deception.”
“I admonish you not to pass on to us your brand of fake, hateful, negative and gutter politics,” he added.
Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez then called out Rodriguez, saying “it reveals a lot about who they are that barely 24 hours after a crime was committed against VP Leni's family, here they are, in full attack mode, adding insult upon insult on what is already the most unjust of injuries.”
