While shopping online for Christmas gifts is a popular trend these days, nothing still beats going to markets and bazaars to shop for holiday presents.

Letting the flavors of freshly cooked food envelope you and trigger your appetite, talking to merchants to haggle for prices or ask for product details, trying out or examining items before buying them — while it can be overwhelming sometimes, to many Filipinos the sensory and social experience of shopping remains worthwhile.

Personally shopping for loved ones’ Christmas presents also shows how important the recipients are to the person buying the gift and makes the gift extra special because of the effort that went into it. If shopping is spent and enjoyed with family and friends, it strengthens their bonds.

With the need to shop for holiday presents becoming more urgent as Christmas draws closer, here’s a guide to some of the upcoming bazaars and markets in the metro so you can get your loved ones the presents that would make their Yuletide special.

Greenhills Christmas Night Market

Part food park, part street fair, the Greenhills Christmas Night Market is expected to make shopping at Greenhills Shopping Center even more enjoyable with its plentiful selection of food and drink options and affordable gift items and products.

Apart from the night market, there’s also a Laser Light Symphony Show that friends and families can watch while enjoying mouthfuls of holiday treats at the night market. Open until Jan. 5 next year, the Greenhills Christmas Night Market is one of the longest-running bazaars to open this holiday season.

Molito Street Fair: Christmas Calle Night Market

Molito Alabang isn’t just known for its chill ambiance and wide open green spaces that draw southern urbanites to hang out every weekend. The strip mall is also popular for its weekend Street Fair where local merchants congregate to sell various food and drink and a wide assortment of wares, from shoes and apparel to garden plants and home décor. The Molito Street Fair will become an even bigger magnet for bargain hunters as it showcases Christmas gift items, decorations, and traditional holiday food and drink.

Kultura Pamaskong Handog

Noel Bazaar

Also on its 19th staging is the Noel Bazaar, which was first organized for the benefit of the GMA Kapuso Foundation. Held at three consecutive venues this year, the Noel Bazaar promises to be the biggest-ever staging of the annual charity bazaar.

This year’s event will also have more beneficiaries, including the Philippine Daily Inquirer Foundation, Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation, Gifts and Graces Foundation and the Noel P. Gozon Memorial Clinic.

Aside from featuring over 500 merchants that will sell a wide variety of apparel, toys, home items, shoes, bags and pre-loved items, the event will also feature appearances and performances by several Kapuso actors and personalities. To fill visitors’ tummies with holiday goodness, the International Food Fair Bazaar will also return with a wide selection of local and foreign food and drinks.
