When Will The Philippine Athletes Compete? Here Is Team PH’s Schedule At The Tokyo Olympics
Mark the dates and watch as they aim for Gold!

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics officially opens tomorrow, July 23, and even though you can’t be in Japan to witness this much-awaited event in these most unusual circumstances, here are a few details that will make you feel like you’re there too.
This year, there will be 339 events across 33 sports. It has been decided by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that no spectators will be allowed because Japan is currently under a state of emergency. Sports fans have been upset that they can’t watch the Games live, but thankfully livestreams of each event will be available online.
The main venue for the Games, including the opening ceremony, is the new Tokyo Olympic Stadium, while other events will be held at 41 other venues, including the Ariake Urban Sports Park, Aomi Urban Sports Park, Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Yoyogi National Stadium, Nippon Budokan, and Equestrian Park.
Some events will also be held outside of Tokyo. Baseball and Softball Games will be held at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, while other Football tournaments will be held at Miyagi, Sapporo, and Kashima.
First Olympic Gold for the Philippines?
The Philippine Team is comprised of nineteen outstanding athletes. Since the Philippines has never won a gold medal since it debuted in the Olympics in 1924, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) decided to send 19 delegates instead of the original 16 to up the Team’s chances. All but one, Weightlifting Silver Medalist Hidilyn Diaz, are first timers at the Olympics!
For the first time, the Philippine roster is dominated by women! Ten of the 19 delegates are women, and we would love to see them make history!
To date, the Philippines has won a total of 3 Silver and 7 Bronze Olympic Medals at the Summer Olympics, and the generous donors of the Philippine team are giving our athletes a lot of motivation to win the country’s first Gold.
Multi-million cash incentives also await the athletes from team Philippines who will take home medals. The Philippine Olympic Committee says, “Apart from international recognition, winning athletes will take home with them a hefty amount of bonus. Just this week, San Miguel Corp. big boss Ramon S. Ang offered to match the cash prize by the Manny V. Pangilinan’s Sports Foundation—Php 10 million for gold medalists, Php 5 million for silver medalists, and Php 2 million for bronze medalists.”
