DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said there was neither a discussion on her possible tandem with presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nor an official endorsement of the former senator’s candidacy when they met in Cebu City over the weekend.

The mayor stressed on Sunday, Oct. 24, that she only asked Marcos how the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) regional party, which she leads, can help his candidacy in the Davao region.

Wala pay istorya mahitungod niana (There have been no talks about it),” she quipped when asked on the possibility of a team-up with Marcos.

Reports have been circulating that the mayor will eventually run for president even if she has filed for reelection as mayor. Duterte-Carpio filed for reelection as Davao City mayor on Oct. 2. She has until Nov. 15 to file as a substitute candidate for a political party should she eventually run for president.

“I do not have plans of running for president,” the mayor said.

There were also talks that she would be the vice president of Marcos.

Duterte-Carpio and Marcos were guests in the birthday celebration of party-list Rep. Yedda Romualdez, wife of House Majority leader Martin Romualdez, at the couple’s residence in Cebu on Saturday, Oct. 23.

She and Marcos first met at the Romualdez residence for lunch and had a two-and-a-half hour meeting at her hotel room later on the same day. They afterward had dinner with Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia and her daughter Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco on Saturday evening.

Duterte-Carpio refused to elaborate on what she discussed with Marcos.

“Sorry, I cannot comment on that, but you can ask him since he is the one running for a national position,” she said.

President Duterte has reiterated that his daughter is “definitely out” of the presidential race in 2022.

However, things took a different turn when Duterte-Carpio, garbed in a green hoodie with the words “SARA ALL 2022” printed in front, made her first public appearance after recovering from COVID-19 and flew to Cebu City last Friday, Oct. 22.
