Despite challenges in recent years, a large majority of Filipinos remain happy and satisfied with their lives, a survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

Results of the Nov. 24 to 30 poll showed that 83 percent, or eight in 10 respondents, were either “very happy” or “fairly happy” with their lives.

It was composed of 33 percent who said they were “very happy” and another 50 percent who were “fairly happy.”

The results were released ahead of the celebration of the International Day of Happiness on Friday, March 20.

Fifteen percent said they were “not very happy,” while two percent were “not at all happy.”

The resulting average last year was 32 percent “very happy” and 52 percent “fairly happy” respondents. It went down from the average of 40 percent “very happy” and 50 percent “fairly happy” average in 2023.

Across areas, happiness was highest among respondents in the Visayas (40 percent “very happy,” 49 percent “fairly happy”), followed by those in Mindanao (34 percent “very happy,” 52 percent “fairly happy”), balance Luzon (32 percent “very happy,” 49 percent “fairly happy”) and Metro Manila (24 percent “very happy,” 52 percent “fairly happy”).

Meanwhile, in terms of satisfaction, 28 percent of the respondents said they were “very satisfied” with their lives, while another 51 percent said they were “fairly satisfied.”

Fourteen percent said they were “not very satisfied,” while seven percent were “not at all satisfied.”

The annual average for 2025 also went down compared to two years ago: from 36 percent to 29 percent “very satisfied” respondents and from 53 percent to 51 percent “fairly satisfied” respondents.

Satisfaction was highest among those in the Visayas (35 percent “very satisfied,” 48 percent “fairly satisfied”), followed by those in balance Luzon (27 percent “very satisfied,” 56 percent “fairly satisfied”), Metro Manila (27 percent “very satisfied,” 54 percent “fairly satisfied”) and Mindanao (25 percent “very satisfied,” 43 percent “fairly satisfied”).

The survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus three percent for national percentages.
